Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The new letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "T" and no twist this time.
After a lot of thought I went for Time. My favourite quote is "Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time" from John Lennon, which I wanted to use.

For the background I crumbled a piece of cling film into a ball and used it as a kind of sponge with white acrylic paint. I sponged the acrylic paint in splotches all over the background. Let it dry and used 2 Distress Inks all over the background. After that I used some stamps across the background in a random pattern and added the polka dot border. I printed out the quote and added it to the background along with the definition.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The new letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "A". Since I'm just back from a vacation in Croatia I didn't have much time to think about it and went for Alphabet. It's an alphabet challenge after all :)

I've drawn 26 equal sections for the single letters and a bigger one for the definition. Then I choose 13 different Distress Inks, masked off the 26 sections and coloured them in with the DIs using each colour twice. The definition section and the top borders was coloured with another DI. I used the same DI colour for the chipboard letters and glued one letter in each section. Finally I added the definition.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The new letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "J" with the twist to include a dragonfly.

I went for the word Journey. For the background I made a colour wash of Distress Inks and crumbled the paper to get a bit of a vintage look. I then used a stamp all over the background. I printed out an old map and made it look a bit used and glued it to the background. Then I added tamps from the corresponding continents. Since I didn't find a stamp for Africa i used a stamp with a dragonfly :)

Some added extras and the definition added as well.

Happy weekend and thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "S" with the twist to include a shell.
One of my favourite bands is Sunset Sons (check them out they are really good :) ), so the decision was easy I went for Sunset.

I made a stencil of a 3/4 circle and used Distress Ink to create the sun. Then I marked up the sun and added 3 different DIs to the background. Sprayed everything with water to get the colours fade into each other a little bit. I stamped seagulls around the sun and shells as a kind of border.
Then I divided the page with striped Washi Tape and added the letters Sunset (the word Sons underneath the T) and the definition.

And last but not least, thanks so much (to Mr Random Generator) for picking my last entry as the winner. I've already spent the voucher on some Brushos and hope to play with them very soon. Yeah :)
Happy weekend and thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "D" and use the colour Pink.
My first thought was to use one of my favourite stamp set with Dandelions, but I can't find them....grrrr. I definitely have to do a spring clean through my craft stuff soon. :)

So I decided to go for dragonflies instead.
I took a kitchen paper towel and sprayed it with 3 different Dylusion inks (including pink :)) and when dry I glued it on a cardstock. I took a dragonfly stamp from Crafty Individual and stamped it all over the page with 3 different VersaFine inks.
Then I used a smaller dragonfly stamp 3 times and cut it out with the matching die. Coloured them with Distress Ink, used a Gelly Roll Pen for the wings and added them to the page. I also put some rhinestones on them.
And finally I added the word definition.

Sorry for not visiting your blogs lately, I've started a new job and that keeps me busier than I thought/hoped. I will have a look at all your great creations tomorrow though.
Happy weekend and thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "G".
I decided to go for Gargoyles, because I always liked them. I found one from Notre Dame and printed it along with an image of the Eiffel Tower.
For the background I used three different Distress Inks to give the impression of a sky. I glued the Gargoyle and the Eiffel Tower on the background. Then I tore strips from an old book, coloured it with Distress Ink and added the stripes as a border. For the corners I used brads which looks like screws and finally added the word definition.

Thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "R". I knew right away that I wanted to use the word rose, but I couldn't get my head around what to do. So it took me until today to get the page finished and I just made it in time . Phew ... :)

For the background I masked up several sections and used a rose stamp from craft stampers to stamp it in different VersaFine colours in each section. After that I added some Distress inks all over the background.
I then found a lovely image of a vintage lady with roses in her hand, which I layered on paper and glued it to the background.
I then added a lace at the bottom of the image and fixed it with some flower brads. Finally I added the word definition.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge and Country View Challenges

The 3rd letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "F" and for a twist a heart should be included.
I had a couple of words, but went for "Fairy" at the end.

For the background I drew a grid of squares and rectangles with a pencil. I used 5 different Distress Inks to colour the section by masking them with Post-its. Then I used the same inks to stamp some textures into the sections. I found a very old fairy stamp, which I stamped with blue VersaFine and embossed it with Cosmic Shimmer embossing powder. Cut the fairy out, coloured the background of the fairy with DI and mounted it on a blue piece of fabric. Glued everything on the background and added the flowers and the heart. I also added a border at the top and bottom of the background with Distress Stickles. Finally I added the dictionary definition in the lower left corner.

I would also like to enter this one in the February challenge over on
Country View Challenges
Their theme this month is "Make your own background"

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

The new theme for the weekly challenge at the
Craft Barn is Triplets

I've got this little tray with x-mas deco pieces a while back and it's perfect for this project as it has 3 compartments.
I painted the tray with a blue effect-paint. I cut out 3 white corrugated board squares, then cut out and coloured 3 cardboard squares with 3 different Distress Inks, cut out 3 acetate squares and used a Xyron stickermaker to adhere 3 lighthouse stamps to the acetate.
Then I assembled all pieces together using foam pads and glued each square into one compartment of the tray. As a final touch I added the little shells to each compartment.

I love lighthouses so this one will go into our bathroom as it kind of fits the theme of the room. This was good fun and I enjoyed making this a lot.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The 2nd letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "Q". A bit tricky, but in the end I went for the word "Question".

I made a colour wash background with Distress Inks and used several stamps and stencils.
Then I stamped question marks all over the page. I coloured the chipboard letters and again used a stamp on the chipboards.
Finally I stamped and embossed another question mark and added the definition.
Again this was good fun.

Thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

Happy New Year :)

The new theme for the Craft Barn's challenges is "Alpha/DIctionary" and the first letter is "B". Go check it out, it sounds interesting. So I decided to play along and see if I can make it till the end this year. :)
I've decided to go for the word "Botany" and I will make journal pages which I'll bind at the end.
For the background I made a colour wash from 3 different Distress Inks and stamped the leaves all over the page in VersaFine. I've used a grass stamp as a border.
Then I used some fern stamps for the distressed squares and adhered them to the left side of the page. I used some letter sticker for the word Botany and glued them on a piece of jute and added the definition of Botany below. After that I added some paper ribbon as a border on top and bottom of the page and another stamped leaf in the bottom corner.
I haven't been crafting over the last months, so this was good fun and I hope to get back into things :)
Okay, off to see what everybody else did.
Thanks for looking :)

Less Is More - Splatters & Time Out

The new challenge over at Less is More (Week 219) is "Splatters".
Great theme. I used a white square card base and added 3 different Distress Inks through  my "Splatter" stencil. Spritzed it with a bit of water and stamped the sentiment with black VersaFine. Nice and Easy :)

I would also like to enter this into the "Rainbow" challenge at Time Out
Thanks for looking :)

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

New Craft Barn prompts for April. They are BLUE and UMBRELLAS.
I've started with the background and added different blue Distress Inks on it. Then I used a brush and spritzed water all over it to create raindrop stains. After that I added the stitch border.

For the tag I used Distress Inks again, added the border and stamped the circles. The main image is from Tim Holtz stamped with VersaFine and embossed with clear embossing powder. I used the same DIs as for the tag and added the red ribbon. Then adhered everything to the background. Sorry for the slightly wonky scan, it's a bit too early in the morning :)

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Lime, Turquoise & White

This weeks challenge on Merry Monday Christmas is "Lime, Turquoise & White".

For this card I've cut out a 6 squares in 2 different sizes with my Cuttlebug. I've added Distress Inks to each square and added white glitter snowflakes to each square. After that I scored 3 lines on a white card-base and added the same Distress Inks. I arranged and glued the squares on the card and stamped the sentiment with Distress Ink and coloured it with a Gelly Roll pen.

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

The new theme for the weekly challenge at the
Craft Barn is Retiform. Check this technique out here.
I've done this technique before, but didn't know it was called Retiform.

I masked off different sections on a square piece of cardstock and coloured them with blue and red Distress Inks. Then masked off every section again and stamped the Asian woman and the cherry blossoms in the different sections. I've added the ribbon and the charm and layered the piece on some black card and onto a gold card base.
A fun technique.

Less Is More: Combine any three previous Less is More challenges
Here's a new card for the new Less is More Challenge - Week 217.
The Challenge this week: Combine any three previous LiM challenges.

I had to make a birthday card for my Brother-in-Law so I went for the following challenges:

Week 18: Monochrome
Week 111: Frame it!
Week 159: Masculine

I coloured a Tim Holtz car embossing folder with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink and embossed a piece of white cardstock with my Cuttlebug. I added then Antique Linen and Old Paper DIs to the embossed car and die cutted the whole piece. After that I've used some Walnut Stain DI for the edges of that piece.
Then I stamped the border with Walnut Stain and the sentiment with Brushed Corduroy. I hope he likes it :)

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: Gifts
This weeks challenge on Merry Monday Christmas is "Gifts".

For some reason it took ages to come up with an idea what to do. I just couldn't find the right image. But today I had a look at http://freetrinketstreasures.blogspot.co.uk/ and finally discovered the one I wanted to use. I took a piece of music sheet crumbled it up and added Faded Jeans Distress Ink. Then adhered it to some blue textured cardstock and added the blue ribbon. I layered the image on the same blue cardstock and fixed it on the card with foam pads. I then coloured the wooden sentiment with Metallic Marker and added it to the image, replacing the word Joy in the quote on the image with the wooden word Joy. Finally glued the whole piece to white cardstock.

Less Is More: One Layer - Include an Animal

This card is for the new Less is More Challenge - Week 215.
The Challenge this week is a One Layer card with the theme: Include an Animal.
I always kind of struggle with One Layer cards, that's why I love to play at LIM from time to time. Gets me out of my comfort zone.

For this card I used Vintage Photo and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks through a Harlequin stencil on a white card base. Then I used the quote stamp from Craft Stamper magazine with Black Onyx VersaFine and the butterfly stamp from Crafty Individuals with Rangers Big and Juicy Ink. I actually quite like the effect that the Harlequin pattern is showing through the butterflies.

I've masked up a square white card and added the light blue stripes with Distress Ink and added darker blue peel off borders. Then adhered the 4 squares with foam pads. After that I stamped the greeting, layered it and added it in the center of the card. Finally I added some blue stones.

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

The Craft Barn prompts for March are YELLOW and RABBITS.
I've used Mustard Seed and Wild Honey Distress Inks for the background and then used my favourite new toy the Burst template from Crafters Workshop with Wild Honey Distress Ink. I then stamped the Alice in Wonderland faux postage stamps from Stampattack on white card stock with Deep Lagoon VersaFine and coloured them with Mustard Seed and Fired Brick Distress Inks. I found jute sheets at one of our Poundshops and adhered the faux postage to it and also added some jute border at the top and the bottom.
