Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The new letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "T" and no twist this time.
After a lot of thought I went for Time. My favourite quote is "Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time" from John Lennon, which I wanted to use.

For the background I crumbled a piece of cling film into a ball and used it as a kind of sponge with white acrylic paint. I sponged the acrylic paint in splotches all over the background. Let it dry and used 2 Distress Inks all over the background. After that I used some stamps across the background in a random pattern and added the polka dot border. I printed out the quote and added it to the background along with the definition.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The new letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "A". Since I'm just back from a vacation in Croatia I didn't have much time to think about it and went for Alphabet. It's an alphabet challenge after all :)

I've drawn 26 equal sections for the single letters and a bigger one for the definition. Then I choose 13 different Distress Inks, masked off the 26 sections and coloured them in with the DIs using each colour twice. The definition section and the top borders was coloured with another DI. I used the same DI colour for the chipboard letters and glued one letter in each section. Finally I added the definition.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The new letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "J" with the twist to include a dragonfly.

I went for the word Journey. For the background I made a colour wash of Distress Inks and crumbled the paper to get a bit of a vintage look. I then used a stamp all over the background. I printed out an old map and made it look a bit used and glued it to the background. Then I added tamps from the corresponding continents. Since I didn't find a stamp for Africa i used a stamp with a dragonfly :)

Some added extras and the definition added as well.

Happy weekend and thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "S" with the twist to include a shell.
One of my favourite bands is Sunset Sons (check them out they are really good :) ), so the decision was easy I went for Sunset.

I made a stencil of a 3/4 circle and used Distress Ink to create the sun. Then I marked up the sun and added 3 different DIs to the background. Sprayed everything with water to get the colours fade into each other a little bit. I stamped seagulls around the sun and shells as a kind of border.
Then I divided the page with striped Washi Tape and added the letters Sunset (the word Sons underneath the T) and the definition.

And last but not least, thanks so much (to Mr Random Generator) for picking my last entry as the winner. I've already spent the voucher on some Brushos and hope to play with them very soon. Yeah :)
Happy weekend and thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "D" and use the colour Pink.
My first thought was to use one of my favourite stamp set with Dandelions, but I can't find them....grrrr. I definitely have to do a spring clean through my craft stuff soon. :)

So I decided to go for dragonflies instead.
I took a kitchen paper towel and sprayed it with 3 different Dylusion inks (including pink :)) and when dry I glued it on a cardstock. I took a dragonfly stamp from Crafty Individual and stamped it all over the page with 3 different VersaFine inks.
Then I used a smaller dragonfly stamp 3 times and cut it out with the matching die. Coloured them with Distress Ink, used a Gelly Roll Pen for the wings and added them to the page. I also put some rhinestones on them.
And finally I added the word definition.

Sorry for not visiting your blogs lately, I've started a new job and that keeps me busier than I thought/hoped. I will have a look at all your great creations tomorrow though.
Happy weekend and thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "G".
I decided to go for Gargoyles, because I always liked them. I found one from Notre Dame and printed it along with an image of the Eiffel Tower.
For the background I used three different Distress Inks to give the impression of a sky. I glued the Gargoyle and the Eiffel Tower on the background. Then I tore strips from an old book, coloured it with Distress Ink and added the stripes as a border. For the corners I used brads which looks like screws and finally added the word definition.

Thanks for looking :)

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The next letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "L". It took me some time to find a word for this, but in the end I went for "Label".

For the background I used a brayer with a Big and Juicy ink pad. Added some texture with my new Indigo Blu texture stamps. Then I stamped, cut out and inked labels from a Lili of the Valley stamp set and attached them on the background with some brads. Finally I added the word definition and fixed it with a label frame.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge and Country View Challenges

The 3rd letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "F" and for a twist a heart should be included.
I had a couple of words, but went for "Fairy" at the end.

For the background I drew a grid of squares and rectangles with a pencil. I used 5 different Distress Inks to colour the section by masking them with Post-its. Then I used the same inks to stamp some textures into the sections. I found a very old fairy stamp, which I stamped with blue VersaFine and embossed it with Cosmic Shimmer embossing powder. Cut the fairy out, coloured the background of the fairy with DI and mounted it on a blue piece of fabric. Glued everything on the background and added the flowers and the heart. I also added a border at the top and bottom of the background with Distress Stickles. Finally I added the dictionary definition in the lower left corner.

I would also like to enter this one in the February challenge over on
Country View Challenges
Their theme this month is "Make your own background"

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

The new theme for the weekly challenge at the
Craft Barn is Triplets

I've got this little tray with x-mas deco pieces a while back and it's perfect for this project as it has 3 compartments.
I painted the tray with a blue effect-paint. I cut out 3 white corrugated board squares, then cut out and coloured 3 cardboard squares with 3 different Distress Inks, cut out 3 acetate squares and used a Xyron stickermaker to adhere 3 lighthouse stamps to the acetate.
Then I assembled all pieces together using foam pads and glued each square into one compartment of the tray. As a final touch I added the little shells to each compartment.

I love lighthouses so this one will go into our bathroom as it kind of fits the theme of the room. This was good fun and I enjoyed making this a lot.

Craft Barn "Alpha/Dictionary" Challenge

The 2nd letter for the Craft Barn challenge is "Q". A bit tricky, but in the end I went for the word "Question".

I made a colour wash background with Distress Inks and used several stamps and stencils.
Then I stamped question marks all over the page. I coloured the chipboard letters and again used a stamp on the chipboards.
Finally I stamped and embossed another question mark and added the definition.
Again this was good fun.

Craft Barn weekly challenge & Time Out

I'd like to enter this journal page in 2 challenges:
The Craft Barn weekly challenge: "Words"
Time Out Challenge: see photo below

I've made this page a few weeks back and think this could fit both challenges. The quote is from a song by a band called Canterbury (unfortunately they split up last year). The song is called "Garden Grows" (if you like check it out here).
For this page I've used nearly every flower stamp that I have and also most of my VersaFine and VersaColor ink pads.
I randomly stamped the flowers onto the page in different colours to create a background and than added the lyrics with matching colour stickers.

Thanks for looking :)

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

New Craft Barn prompts for April. They are BLUE and UMBRELLAS.
I've started with the background and added different blue Distress Inks on it. Then I used a brush and spritzed water all over it to create raindrop stains. After that I added the stitch border.

For the tag I used Distress Inks again, added the border and stamped the circles. The main image is from Tim Holtz stamped with VersaFine and embossed with clear embossing powder. I used the same DIs as for the tag and added the red ribbon. Then adhered everything to the background. Sorry for the slightly wonky scan, it's a bit too early in the morning :)

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

The new theme for the weekly challenge at the
Craft Barn is Retiform. Check this technique out here.
I've done this technique before, but didn't know it was called Retiform.

I masked off different sections on a square piece of cardstock and coloured them with blue and red Distress Inks. Then masked off every section again and stamped the Asian woman and the cherry blossoms in the different sections. I've added the ribbon and the charm and layered the piece on some black card and onto a gold card base.
A fun technique.

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

The Craft Barn prompts for March are YELLOW and RABBITS.
I've used Mustard Seed and Wild Honey Distress Inks for the background and then used my favourite new toy the Burst template from Crafters Workshop with Wild Honey Distress Ink. I then stamped the Alice in Wonderland faux postage stamps from Stampattack on white card stock with Deep Lagoon VersaFine and coloured them with Mustard Seed and Fired Brick Distress Inks. I found jute sheets at one of our Poundshops and adhered the faux postage to it and also added some jute border at the top and the bottom.

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

The theme for the 2nd weekly challenge at the
Craft Barn is Tando.
I only own a stencil from Tando, which made it easy to decide what to use. I've recently learnt about a technique which is called Bokeh and thought this would go well with my splatter stencil. Well, I liked the end result, but I'm not sure if it's really Bokeh :)

Here is what I did:
I've used 3 different Distress Inks for the background, let it dry completely and then sponged white Brilliance Ink through the stencil. I've overlapped the splatters from time to time and again let it dry.
Then I've stamped the Happiness quote from PaperArtsy on a piece of cardboard, which I die-cut with my Cuttlebug, coloured it with Distress Ink and layered it on a blue piece of cardboard. I've layered the whole card on another piece of blue cardboard, added the ribbon and the charm and adhered everything onto a white card.

The Craft Barn: Weekly Challenge

This year the
Craft Barn team is hosting weekly challenges as well and the first one is to create a Mini Album.
I decided to make a Travel Album and it will be a birthday present for a friend of mine. For the covers I've used corrugated cardboard glued to strong cardboard. I've decorated the covers front and back with travel images using Papermania stamps (coloured with Distress Inks) and postage stamps.

I've used Spellbinders papers for the insides of the covers and added some Crafty Individuals images and Washi Tape. The pages for the album are plastic pocket wallets and different note papers from Papermania. This was good fun.

The Craft Barn: Calendar Challenge

The
Craft Barn prompts for February are RED and HEARTS.
I used Distress Inks for the background and stamped the script and hearts on it with VersaMark. After that I stamped the quote on another cardboard and cut it out. Then I glued the image of the smiling woman and the quote on the background and added another cut out heart.  Finally I used a Gelly Roll Pens for some highlights.

The Craft Barn: Q & L Challenge

This is the last challenge this year at the Craft Barn. I had lots of fun this year joining in and would like to thank the Craft Barn team for organizing these interesting challenges. Looking forward to what you have planned for us in the new year.
Also thanks to all of you who visited my blog and left a comment. Very much appreciated. :)
I also had lots of fun visiting your blogs and got lots of inspiration for future projects.

The challenge this time is to use the words FAITH and/or HARMONY in a quote or lyric.
I found a quote from George Washington with both words in it:

"Observe good faith and justice towards all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all."
With all what's going on in the world at the moment, I think this is something everybody should think about and take it to heart.

For the background I've used a wash of different Distress inks. I printed out an image of a united world and the quote as well. Added some Distress inks to both and glued them on the page. I finished it off by drawing the border.

I wish you all
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2015

The Craft Barn: Q & L Challenge

It's the penultimate challenge at the Craft Barn already. The challenge this time is to use the words HEART and/or RISK in a quote or lyric.
I finally was able to use a song of one of my all time favourite bands: INTERPOL. The song is called "Slow Hands" and the lyrics are: "Can you see what you've done to my heart? And Soul? This is a wasteland now"

I've made a mistake with the lyrics on my page, but hey...I left it like it is. :)

For the background I've used a wash of different Distress inks. I've made a heart template and used Grunge Paste mixed with silver/grey acrylic paint with it. After it dried I've added some spiderweb stamps and sticked the hands on. I recently bought the Stampotique girl and thought she is just perfect for this project. So she went on in the middle of the heart. I drew a border around the page, wrote the lyrics around the heart and added some more spiderwebs.

The stamps I've used are from Stampotique and Tim Holtz.
Looking forward to see what everybody else did. So will pop over to the Craft Barn blog now.
Thanks for all the lovely comments on my journey page. Very much appreciated.

The Craft Barn: Q & L Challenge

A new challenge at the Craft Barn. The challenge this time is to use the words JOURNEY and/or FRIENDSHIP in a quote or lyric.
I went for journey and a song of another favourite singer of mine: Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. The song is called "Into my arms"

Lyrics:
And I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candles burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore

I've started by covering the whole background with black Gesso Then I've made 3 tags where I stamped the stars and added the border. I've stamped three hearts on red cardboard and added the stamped heads and the lover. On the black background I've drawn a white border and wrote the lyrics as well. Arranged the three tags and glued them on.

The stamps I've used are from Craft Stamper mag., Paper Artsy and Crafty Individuals.
Another fun project.

Thanks for all the nice comments on my Moon page. Very much appreciated.
